In a large mixing bowl, combine the beef mince, egg, onion, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper. Mix well using your hands until all the ingredients are evenly distributed.
Divide the mixture into 4 portions and shape each portion into a patty, about 2cm thick.
Heat a non-stick pan or grill pan over medium-high heat. Once hot, cook the patties for 3-4 minutes on each side, or until fully cooked through.
While the patties are cooking, prepare the burger buns. Slice them in half and lightly toast them in the oven or under the grill.
When the patties are almost done, place a slice of cheddar cheese on each patty and let it melt.
Assemble the hamburgers by placing a cooked patty on the bottom half of each bun. Add your desired toppings and then place the top half of the bun on top.
Serve immediately with your favourite sides, such as fries or onion rings.
