In a spacious mixing bowl, blend together the flour and salt. In a separate small bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm water, allowing it to rest for 5 minutes until it achieves a frothy consistency.
Combine the yeast mixture and olive oil with the flour mixture, stirring until a cohesive dough forms.
Work the dough on a lightly floured surface for approximately 5 minutes, or until it becomes smooth and elastic, shaping it into a ball.
Grease another bowl with vegetable oil and transfer the dough to it. Cover it with a clean kitchen towel and let it proof for 1 hour or until it doubles in size.
Preheat your oven to 220°C (430°F) and grease a rectangular baking dish measuring around 9×13 inches with vegetable oil.
Gently stretch and press the dough into the greased baking dish, ensuring even coverage of the bottom. Allow it to rest for 10 minutes.
Evenly spread the tomato sauce over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges.
Sprinkle a mixture of grated mozzarella and cheddar cheese evenly over the sauce. Then, evenly sprinkle dried oregano, garlic powder, onion powder, and red pepper flakes (if desired) over the cheese.
Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes or until the crust achieves a golden brown hue and the cheese is bubbling and slightly caramelized.
Take the pizza out of the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before slicing it into squares. Serve while hot and savour your homemade Detroit-style pizza!
