Cook the pasta according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
In a large pan, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the pan. Cook until softened and fragrant, about 3-4 minutes.
Pour in the tin of chopped tomatoes, dried oregano, and dried basil. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
Allow the sauce to simmer for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it has thickened slightly.
Add the cooked pasta to the sauce, tossing until evenly coated.
Serve the tomato pasta hot, garnished with fresh basil leaves and grated Parmesan cheese if desired.
