Ingredients

  • 200 g Basmati Rice
  • 500 ml Water
  • 1 tbsp Olive Oil
  • 1 Onion
  • 2 cloves Garlic minced
  • 1 tsp Turmeric Powder
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1/2 tsp Black Pepper
  • 1 tbsp Coriander

Instructions

  • Rinse the Basmati Rice under cold water until the water runs clear to remove excess starch.
  • In a medium saucepan, heat the Olive Oil over medium heat.
  • Add the finely chopped Onion and minced Garlic to the pan. Sauté for 2-3 minutes until the Onion is translucent.
  • Stir in the Ground Turmeric, Salt, and freshly ground Black Pepper, cooking for another minute to release the flavours.
  • Add the rinsed Rice to the pan, stirring to coat the grains with the spice mixture.
  • Pour in the Water and bring to a boil.
  • Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover the pan with a lid, and simmer for 15 minutes, or until the Rice is tender and the Water has been absorbed.
  • Remove the pan from the heat and let it sit, covered, for an additional 5 minutes to allow the Rice to steam and become fluffy.
  • Fluff the Rice with a fork and garnish with freshly chopped Coriander, if using.
